RIF (Primitive Clay)

RIF ® clay ideal for pit, bonfire & sawdust firings. It is a mixture of mica with 30% refractory chamotte, which makes objects made   with this clay highly resistant to thermal shock.

Fired colour: orange with flakes of mica.
Frost resistant at 1020 ° C
Firing temperature of 800 ° C - 1150 ° C

RIF (Primative Clay) was recently seen and used in a workshop at the International Ceramic Festival , Aberystwyth to much aclaim.

It was commented on how well it stood up to thermal shock.

Objects that were made could be fired after only a short drying period and developed a wide range of  tones from a light orange to a deeper red through to a black with the specks of mica glitteing through.
